about

A cinematic and brooding waltz led by melancholic string
arrangement and ghostly piano figures. The atmospherics
and claustrophobic space are ominously toned by field
recordings of rain and thunder and eerie sound design.

– Story –
After the Navy’s telegram confirmed the sinking of the HMAS
Perth, Mirla is left waiting for news of Arthur. Autumn turns to
winter and still no word on Arthur. Had he survived?
In her House of Mirrors, Mirla battles with her worst fears.

– Conversation Notes –
I composed this almost like a film noir, where light is made bold
by scenes of darkness and shadow, where the characters brood
and glimmer in uncertainty. The rain comes pattering onto the
cobbled streets of Fremantle Wharf, making patterns in the
lamplight, and the thunder rolls in off the Indian Ocean,
percussive on the old iron roofs of nearby boathouses.
A bell tolls – for something, yet unknown.
